Abu dhabi: The United Arab Emirates' Minister of Climate Change and the Environment, Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak Al Shamsi, highlighted that sustainability is a fundamental aspect of the UAE's national identity, a principle deeply rooted in the vision of the country's Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. This enduring commitment continues to drive the nation's current leadership towards significant environmental stewardship and proactive climate change initiatives. According to Emirates News Agency, Dr. Al Dahak made these remarks during a session at the 2nd Global Government Leaders Programme (GGLP), which included a series of field visits to various government entities and national projects. These visits are designed to showcase the UAE's successful practices and achievements in several strategic sectors to international government leaders. During her discourse, Dr. Al Dahak emphasized that the legacy of sustainability is more than a policy; it is embedded in the "UAE DNA", guiding the n ation with clear objectives and robust visions. The minister outlined how the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment translates this vision into tangible actions through collaborative partnerships across multiple sectors, including government entities, NGOs, private sectors, and the community. This integrated approach helps address current challenges like climate change and resource conservation effectively. Dr. Al Dahak also shed light on the UAE's ambitious sustainable development goals under its Energy Strategy 2050, which aims to significantly increase the share of renewable energy in the national energy mix and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. She highlighted the circular economy model promoted by the UAE, which focuses on sustainability by minimizing waste and maximizing resource efficiency. Further illustrating the UAE's commitment to environmental sustainability, Dr. Al Dahak mentioned the 'Plant the UAE' initiative, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. This nationa l programme not only supports the UAE's agricultural development and food security but also aligns with environmental conservation efforts by promoting the cultivation of key crops and reducing carbon footprints through local production. The session concluded with Dr. Al Dahak reaffirming the UAE's dedication to international cooperation and its eagerness to share its sustainable development experiences globally. The GGLP, she hopes, will serve as a valuable platform for international leaders to gain insights and learn from the UAE's approach to governance and environmental management. The GGLP is an initiative by the Government Experience Exchange Office at the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs and the Mohammed bin Rashid Centre for Leadership Development. It aims to enhance the preparedness and effectiveness of government institutions worldwide by sharing the UAE's governance models and successes.
