Abu Dhabi: President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan today attended the official opening ceremony of the 2025 edition of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW). This annual global platform, taking place primarily at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC), focuses on accelerating sustainability efforts and advancing socioeconomic progress in the UAE and around the world.
According to Emirates News Agency, the ceremony was attended by a distinguished lineup of UAE leaders, including His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court; H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi; and other prominent figures. Additionally, numerous heads of state such as Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan, and Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan, among others, were present.
The UAE President welcomed global leaders and experts to ADSW to engage in discussions on sustainability challenges, fostering dialogue, and driving efforts to devise solutions for a sustainable future. His Highness highlighted the importance of ADSW as a platform to unite leaders and experts to address pressing sustainability issues and develop strategic frameworks for global progress.
His Highness emphasized that sustainability is integral to the UAE’s strategies, focusing on utilizing resources and capabilities to promote global sustainable development. He further noted that ADSW reflects the nation’s commitment to leveraging advanced technologies to transform energy systems and accelerate economic and social progress.
The ceremony commenced with the UAE national anthem and a film highlighting the significance of integrating advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence, with energy sectors to foster innovation. Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Chairman of Masdar, delivered the opening address, commending UAE leadership for positioning ADSW as a leading platform for sustainable development.
Dr. Al Jaber praised the UAE’s achievements in renewable energy, nuclear energy, and AI, emphasizing the country’s accomplishments in space exploration and commitment to sustainable energy solutions. He highlighted the launch of a record-breaking project addressing the issue of intermittency in renewable energy, developed by Masdar in collaboration with Emirates Water and Electricity Company.
ADSW 2025, themed ‘The Nexus of Next: Supercharging Sustainable Progress,’ features an engaging program of discussions and events addressing the need for systemic change to fast-track the transition to a sustainable global economy. The program includes high-profile sessions, forums, and networking opportunities aimed at connecting energy, data, finance, trade, and ecosystems to drive sustainable growth.
The week began with the IRENA General Assembly and the Global Climate Finance Forum, setting the stage for the ADSW Summit. It will continue with events like the World Future Energy Summit, Youth 4 Sustainability Forum, Women in Sustainability Forum, and the Green Hydrogen Summit, culminating with the Masdar City Festival, celebrating innovation and community engagement in sustainability.
