Amman: United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on Monday condemned Israeli air strikes in Beit Lahia, Gaza, which resulted in the deaths of several Palestinians, including women and children, highlighting the critical need for the protection of civilians in conflict zones. According to Jordan News Agency, Guterres's sentiments were conveyed through a statement read by his deputy spokesperson, Farhan Haq. In his address, the Secretary-General emphasized the necessity of respecting and safeguarding civilian lives under all circumstances. He called for immediate and unrestricted access for humanitarian and rescue teams to facilitate life-saving efforts in the region. Guterres further noted that the recent bombings targeting hospitals in northern Gaza have significantly worsened the humanitarian situation, jeopardizing the lives of tens of thousands.
