Washington: The US crude oil production is projected to average 13.8 million barrels per day (b/d) in 2026, setting a new record that surpasses the previous high of 13.7 million b/d set in 2025.

According to Emirates News Agency, the US Energy Information Administration's latest Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO) reports that in the first half of 2026, crude oil production averaged 13.7 million b/d, marking a 2% increase from the same period in 2025. This growth is primarily concentrated in the Permian region located in Texas and New Mexico, as well as the Federal Gulf of America.

The STEO report highlights that Permian oil production is expected to average 6.8 million b/d in 2026, reflecting a 3% rise from 2025 levels. This production growth in the Permian region is largely attributed to higher crude oil prices.

In the Federal Gulf of America, crude oil production saw an increase of 0.2 million b/d, or 10%, in the first half of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025. The STEO forecasts a further 3% increase, equating to an additional 0.1 million b/d, in 2026. This rise in production is mainly due to the commissioning of four new major projects over the past year.
