ABU DHABI: The World Stroke Congress 2024 begins in Abu Dhabi, bringing together global experts to discuss advancements in stroke prevention, treatment, and recovery. Hosted at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, the congress runs until October 26, featuring participation from the Sheikh Khalifa Stroke Institute at Johns Hopkins Medical and Academic Centre. According to Emirates News Agency, the Sheikh Khalifa Stroke Institute will present cutting-edge research and innovations aimed at enhancing collaboration with scientists and experts worldwide. The primary objective is to bolster cooperation with the international medical community, improve strategies for stroke prevention, treatment, and recovery, and elevate public awareness of stroke as a significant health issue both locally and globally. Dr. Victor Urrutia, a leading stroke specialist and director of the Johns Hopkins Sheikh Khalifa Stroke Institute, emphasized Abu Dhabi's and the UAE's growing status as a global center for expertise in stroke care. He outlined the institute's mission to transform stroke care through international collaboration and innovation, focusing on comprehensive care systems that improve access to treatments, support rehabilitation, and develop preventative and early intervention strategies. During the congress, Dr. Urrutia is set to address healthcare institutions on achieving stroke care accreditation, managing tele-stroke networks, and the critical role of multidisciplinary care in enhancing stroke outcomes and treatment standards. The Johns Hopkins team will also engage with distinguished guests, including representatives from the World Stroke Organisation, the Middle East and North Africa Stroke Organisation, and the Stroke Task Force of the Emergency Preparedness and Response Centre.
