Syria participates in Water Action Decade Conference in Tajikistan

Syria participated in the 2nd High-level International Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development” 2018-2028, organized by Tajikistan, in cooperation with the United Nations.

Delivering a speech, Minister of Water Resources, Dr. Tammam Raad, stressed the need for cooperation in the field of supporting sustainable development and the integrated management of water resources in order to obtain the maximum benefit from them, particularly in light of climate changes and increasing demand for water.

The Minister pointed out the terrorists’ sabotage acts which caused damage to water resources , including cutting ,and polluting water resources , as well as destroying sewage infrastructure and irrigation projects.

The Minister stressed the need for lifting unilateral coercive measures imposed on Syria due to the fact that these measures impede government efforts to rehabilitate the water sectors.

In December 2016, the United Nations General Assembly declared the period between 2018-2028 as the International Decade for Action with the aim of supporting sustainable development and the integrated management of water resources.
