OIC Welcomes Riyadh-Tehran Agreement to Resume Diplomatic Relations

Jeddah, March 10, 2023, SPA – The Secretariat-General of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has welcomed the agreement reached between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Republic of Iran to resume diplomatic relations, reopen their embassies, and activate bilateral agreements in security, economy, trade, investment, technology, culture and sports that the two countries signed in 1988.

In a statement Friday, the OIC also welcomed the two countries’ affirmation of the respect for the sovereignty of states, the non-interference in internal affairs of states, and their willingness to resolve disputes through diplomacy and dialogue.

OIC Secretary General Hissein Brahim Taha expressed hopes that the agreement would contribute to enhancing regional security and stability and enhance cooperation among the Jeddah-based organization’s member states.

He also thanked Iraq, Oman, and China for hosting Saudi-Iranian talks and their contributions to inking the agreement.
