House committee decries desecration of Holy Quran in Sweden

The Lower House Foreign Affairs Committee, chaired by MP Khaldoun Haina, denounced the crime of burning a copy of the Holy Quran by extremists in the Swedish capital, Stockholm, which would fuel hatred and racial discrimination.

In a press statement on Sunday, the committee expressed its absolute rejection of such acts, which are viewed a crime and a provocation to all Muslims' sentiments, calling on addressing such abusive behavior and actions, which are away from freedom of expression.

The committee also stressed need to respect religious symbols and promote values of common respect and tolerance urged by the Holy Qur'an, warning of the danger of these provocative practices.

The committee called on the international community to take positions to reject those actions that undermine security and stability.
