UAE President discusses bilateral relations and COP28 with Colombian President


President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan today met with Gustavo Petro, President of the Republic of Colombia, on the sidelines of the ongoing UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) at Expo City Dubai.

The discussions centred on expanding bilateral ties, especially in the economic, trade, and investment fields, in line with the finalisation of a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between the two nations, set to be officially signed at a later date. This agreement is the first of its kind in launching a new phase of economic cooperation between the UAE and a South American country and represents a milestone among countries in the Arabian Gulf and South America.

His Highness and the Colombian President also discussed COP28, its agenda, and the importance of bolstering joint international efforts through the conference to combat climate change and advance the climate action agenda to benefit all people worldwide.

The two sides also reviewed cooperation in environmental and climate act
ion, particularly considering Colombia’s status as one of the most biodiverse countries in the world.

During the meeting, the Colombian President commended the initiative announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in his speech at the World Climate Action Summit to establish a US$ 30 billion global climate solutions fund, underscoring its significance in supporting international climate action for the benefit of humanity.
