Prime Minister: UN Security Council’s failure to mandate a Gaza ceasefire is a license for Israeli atrocities

Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh has described the failure of the UN Security Council to pass a resolution to halt the Israeli aggression against on Gaza-due to the United States exercising its veto power-as a new license for the Israeli occupation to continue its genocide of Palestinians.

In a press statement issued today, the Prime Minister expressed his appreciation for the countries that voted in favor of the resolution, urging them to recognize the independent State of Palestine and continue their efforts to stop the Israeli aggression.

He called for the delivery of desperately needed humanitarian aid, including food, medicine, and fuel, to restore the lifeline back to the Gaza Strip after two months of relentless Israeli aggression.

Shtayyeh explained that the use of the veto exposes the falsehood of those claiming to care about civilian lives, considering the move as an insult to the free people of the world and a violation of the values of justice, freedom, and human rights, especially on the 75th
anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
