Palestine applauds Non-Aligned Movement endorsing South Africa’s case against Israel at ICJ

RAMALLAH: The State of Palestine has applauded the declaration by the Non-Aligned Movement Member States in the 19th Summit of Heads of States and Government meeting in Kampala welcoming the proceedings by South Africa against Israel at the International Court of Justice for violations of the Genocide Convention.

“The declaration is in accordance with commitment of NAM Member States to UN Charter and universality of international law, without selectivity and double standards,” the Palestinian Foreign Ministry said in a press statement.

The statement continued, “NAM Member States also reaffirmed the centrality of the question of Palestine and reiterated the unity and longstanding, common, and principled positions to bring an end Israel’s colonialism, occupation, and oppression.”

It said the Non-Aligned Movement joins the OIC and League of Arab States, unified in upholding their moral, legal, and political responsibilities and obligations towards the Palestinian people and the Palestinian struggle for dignit
y, freedom, and independence.

The Foreign Ministry urged the rest of countries “to uphold their duties towards the human community refrain from politicizing the ICJ and the legal proceedings. Either States commit to the law or commit to violating it.”
