UAE Research Program to Showcase Advances in Weather Modification at ASEAN Seminar

Dubai: Bangkok and Chon Buri Province: The UAE Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science (UAEREP) will participate in the ASEAN Regional Seminar on Weather Modification 2024, which kicks off today and will run until October 22nd in Thailand. The event, led by Thailand's Department of Royal Rainmaking and Agricultural Aviation, aims to discuss the current state of weather modification, best practices, and regional collaboration strategies. According to Emirates News Agency, the seminar is organized by the ASEAN Weather Modification Centre and will feature contributions from weather modification experts from ASEAN member states and international entities including the UAEREP. The focus will be on tropical cloud seeding, enhancing weather modification technologies, and fostering cooperation in sustainable water resource management. The participation of the UAEREP highlights the UAE's leading role in global weather modification efforts and its commitment to addressing water security challenges through inter national collaboration. Dr. Abdulla Al Mandous, Director-General of the National Center of Meteorology and President of the World Meteorological Organisation, emphasized the UAE's ongoing efforts to develop innovative weather modification technologies and solutions. "By advancing the science of weather modification, our goal is to support innovative solutions that enhance rainfall and ensure sustainable water resources for communities at risk," stated Al Mandous. Throughout the seminar, the UAE delegation will engage in various sessions, including a case study presentation on recent advancements in weather modification and a technical session showcasing the UAE's research-to-operations ecosystem in cloud seeding. Alya Al Mazroui, Director of the UAEREP, also noted the seminar as a pivotal platform for sharing expertise and inviting ASEAN participants to the upcoming International Rain Enhancement Forum in Abu Dhabi. In addition to presentations, the UAEREP aims to foster dialogue and partnerships with regio nal and global stakeholders, promoting collaborative projects and innovative rain enhancement solutions. The program also looks forward to introducing its 6th Cycle grant, which focuses on cutting-edge research areas like Optimized Seeding Materials and Autonomous Unmanned Aerial Systems.
