ABU DHABI: The United Arab Emirates and the Government of Rajasthan have entered into a memorandum of understanding to investigate the development of a 60 gigawatt renewable energy project in the Indian state. The initiative will focus on solar, wind, and hybrid energy opportunities in Rajasthan's western district. According to Emirates News Agency, the agreement is part of a broader Investment Cooperation between the UAE Ministry of Investment and India's Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, initially outlining the project's development. The memorandum was officially signed by Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi, UAE Minister of Investment, and Shri Ajitabh Sharma, Principal Secretary of Industries for the Government of Rajasthan. The partnership aims to bring advanced renewable energy technologies to build a long-term facility that will address critical energy needs in Rajasthan. The UAE plans to appoint a developer to execute this initiative in collaboration with Indian authorities. Mohamed Alsuwaidi emphasized th e importance of sustainable energy methods and highlighted the UAE's commitment to clean energy solutions. He noted Rajasthan's favorable climate and landmass as ideal for this project. Lal Sharma, representing the Government of Rajasthan, reaffirmed India's commitment to a sustainable energy future and recognized the partnership's role in accelerating the energy transition. Both nations have set ambitious clean energy goals, with the UAE planning significant investments to achieve a 50 percent clean energy mix by 2050. Rajasthan aligns with India's national strategies, including a carbon intensity reduction of 45 percent by 2030 and achieving net-zero emissions by 2070. The collaboration marks a significant step in both countries' efforts to advance renewable energy solutions and contribute to global climate goals.
