Gov’t Aims to Enhance Provincial Councils’ Efficiency and Services, Ministers Say

AMMAN: Ministers of Public Works and Housing, Maher Abul Samen, and Local Administration, Walid Masri, have outlined plans to improve the performance and services of Jordan's provincial councils by enhancing coordination and addressing challenges. The ministers met at the Ministry of Public Works to discuss legislative and budgetary measures intended to strengthen the councils' operations. According to Jordan News Agency, the discussions between the ministers focused on the legislative framework governing the councils, drawing on actual feedback and experiences. They examined the Local Administration Law No. (22) of 2021 and reviewed guidelines for drafting the governorate budgets for 2023-2024. The capital budget for provincial councils, specifically in the Works Sector, was also a key topic, with an emphasis on accelerating project completion. The ministers reiterated the government's commitment to ensuring the success of the councils by overcoming challenges and obstacles. They highlighted the goal of ac hieving comprehensive development and devolving more power to the governorate level, enabling local authorities to set priorities and make decisions that reflect the needs of citizens.
