DUBAI: The Arab Reading Challenge, a major initiative by the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, is making strides in encouraging reading among Arab youth and promoting pride in their cultural and linguistic heritage. As the largest cultural initiative of its kind, the challenge aims to foster a generation that values reading and is capable of innovation across various fields. According to Emirates News Agency, Emirati writer Gaith Al Hosani emphasized the initiative's role in advancing the intellectual legacy set by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Al Hosani stated that the challenge highlights the critical role of reading as a tool for civilization and as a platform for uniting diverse nations through literature. The initiative also aims to encourage cultural openness and support the intellectual growth of young people. Students participating in the challenge have echoed these sentiments. Areej Samir Ashmawi from the UAE remarked on the confidence and intellectual growth fostered by the initiative, noting its role in opening new horizons and developing both personal and intellectual skills. Similarly, Turkey Abdullah Al-Halabi from Yemen spoke about the initiative's success in enhancing the status of the Arabic language among the youth and promoting its broader use. Sulaiman Khamis Al-Awali, the champion of the Arab Reading Challenge for People of Determination in the UAE, highlighted the importance of reading in developing linguistic and cognitive skills. He stated that reading provides vast knowledge and enables deeper societal engagement for People of Determination. The challenge extends beyond Arab nations, including participants from 28 non-Arab countries. Ikram, an Algerian representing Russia, highlighted the initiative's role in fostering pride in language and culture, emphasizing that it strengthens cultural identity and offers students a chance to explore their heritage from a wider perspective. At its core, the Arab Reading Challenge aims to raise public awarene ss about reading in the Arab world, enhance national pride, and foster a sense of belonging among participants.
