Amna Al Dahak Opens 15th National Dialogue on Climate Ambition at EGA Headquarters

AL TAWEELAH: The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) hosted the 15th session of the National Dialogue on Climate Ambition (NDCA) at the Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) headquarters, emphasizing innovative decarbonisation solutions within the aluminium sector. The dialogue, part of the UAE's strategic initiative to achieve Net Zero by 2050, brought together key stakeholders from the aluminium industry to discuss the sector's role in advancing a circular economy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. According to Emirates News Agency, the NDCA sessions, launched in May 2022, serve as a platform to define and enhance sectoral climate ambitions while engaging diverse stakeholders. The latest assembly focused on the aluminium industry's contribution to the UAE's climate goals, as the nation ranks as the fifth-largest aluminium producer globally. Participants included the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative, leading can-makers, and waste management companies. Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, the Mini ster of Climate Change and Environment, underscored the aluminium sector's potential in achieving a low-carbon future for the UAE. In her keynote address, she highlighted the sector's significance in facilitating low-carbon development and the necessity of meeting rising aluminium demand sustainably. EGA's CEO, Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, expressed the company's commitment to sustainable aluminium production, acknowledging shared decarbonisation challenges across industries that require collaborative solutions. The session also marked the signing of the UAE's Climate-Responsible Companies Pledge by Tadweer Group and Yellow Door Energy, bringing the total number of signatories to 140. This pledge, initiated in 2022, involves companies committing to transparent GHG emissions reporting and developing science-based plans to reduce carbon footprints. The event featured a panel on increasing aluminium beverage can recycling rates in the UAE and concluded with roundtable discussions on developing the aluminium scrap i ndustry, enhancing sectoral circularity, and using aluminium to reduce emissions across various sectors. Additionally, Dr. Al Dahak inaugurated the region's first fully renewable energy-powered industrial data centre at EGA, demonstrating the company's efforts to integrate artificial intelligence and automation while halving IT energy consumption.
