Sharjah: H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah (UoS), chaired the fifty-ninth meeting of the University's Board of Trustees at the university's headquarters. During the meeting, Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed acknowledged the board members' contributions towards the university's progress in academic, research, and administrative areas.
According to Emirates News Agency, the meeting celebrated the efforts of Dr. Hamid Majul Al Nuaimi in guiding the university to achieve substantial development. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed emphasized the university's commitment to maintaining its esteemed position by advancing its scientific research and aligning academic programs with global trends and technological advancements, aligning with business sector needs and students' future aspirations.
The board approved a budget of AED1.27 billion for the 2025-2026 academic year and sanctioned the graduation of 2,026 students, marking a significant milestone for the university. Additionally, several new academic programs were introduced to address labor market demands and support regional economic and social growth. These programs span various fields, including leadership in higher education, interior architecture, safety engineering, and biomedical engineering.
The establishment of two research centers, the Exeter-Sharjah Centre for Global Studies and the Centre for Advanced Biotechnology, was also approved. These centers aim to foster interdisciplinary research and enhance international collaboration in sustainable development and biotechnology.
The board recognized the promotion of 22 faculty members, reflecting the university's dedication to academic excellence and research. Dr. Essam Al-Din Ajami, Chancellor of UoS, presented a report highlighting the university's achievements and strategic plan, focusing on Emiratisation, digital transformation, international cooperation, and innovation.
Reports from specialized committees were also reviewed, emphasizing efforts to increase Emirati faculty and staff. The meeting included prominent figures from various educational institutions, highlighting the university's global outreach and collaborative efforts.
