Gaza: The UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has issued a stark warning about the ongoing conflict in Gaza, describing it as “a hellish war that has devastated children.” In a recent statement, UNICEF highlighted the severe impact of the hostilities on the region’s youngest residents and called for urgent action to protect them.
According to Emirates News Agency, UNICEF’s Executive Director Catherine Russell reported that over the past two years, approximately 64,000 children have been killed or maimed across the Gaza Strip. Alarmingly, this includes at least 1,000 infants. Russell emphasized the dire humanitarian conditions, noting the persistence of famine in Gaza City that is now spreading southward, exacerbating the already harsh living conditions for children.
UNICEF has made a strong appeal for an immediate ceasefire, urging Israel to uphold its obligations under international law to protect civilian lives. “Every child killed is an irreplaceable loss,” Russell stated, underscoring the urgent need to end the conflict for the sake of Gaza’s children.
