UAE and Kuwait Forge Strategic Partnership to Advance Space Cooperation

Kuwait city: H.H. Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Prime Minister of the State of Kuwait, hosted Salem Humaid AlMarri, Director General of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC), and his delegation at Bayan Palace. The official visit focused on enhancing cooperation in space and technology, fostering the exchange of scientific and technical expertise between the Centre and the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS), and exploring future partnership opportunities to support innovation and development in both nations.

According to Emirates News Agency, a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between MBRSC and KFAS during the visit. This MoU aims to establish a comprehensive framework for collaboration in space sciences, advanced research, and national capacity building. It underscores the UAE’s commitment to bolstering the regional role of Arab countries in space, emphasizing innovation, knowledge development, and sustainable scientific growth.

The agreement targets advancements in key areas such as space exploration, remote sensing, applied research, and satellite development. It also promotes the exchange of technical expertise and the introduction of specialized training programs for researchers, engineers, and students in both countries. Furthermore, it sets the stage for collaborative scientific and technical projects designed to foster sustainable development and enhance the competitiveness of the regional space sector.

MBRSC highlighted that the meeting with H.H. Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and the resulting partnership with KFAS are crucial steps towards strengthening joint Arab efforts in the space sector. The collaboration extends beyond a formal agreement, serving as a practical pathway to building an Arab space ecosystem founded on knowledge exchange, human capital development, and enduring scientific collaboration in space science and technology.

Through this partnership, MBRSC seeks to support Kuwait’s national ambitions to establish a robust scientific and research base capable of spearheading regional space initiatives. The Centre reiterated that empowering Gulf and Arab talent, developing specialized training programs, and initiating joint research projects are vital steps toward creating a cohesive regional innovation landscape that aligns with the rapid global advancements in the space sector.

KFAS remarked that the MoU aims to enhance Kuwait’s efforts in the space sector by facilitating scientific and technical knowledge exchange with MBRSC. The agreement includes joint initiatives in space exploration, remote sensing, and advanced space applications that support sustainable development. Additionally, the MoU encompasses cooperation in organizing workshops, seminars, and specialized training programs, as well as developing collaborative scientific and technical projects that contribute to building strong national capabilities in space science and related technologies.

KFAS further stressed that the MoU complements its efforts to establish the Kuwait National Centre for Space Research, created with Amiri support and in collaboration with Kuwait University. The Centre serves as a national platform dedicated to coordinating space-related initiatives, expanding research capabilities, and preparing young Kuwaiti talent to engage in advanced educational and research projects in satellite science, space missions, and specialized training programs. It also aims to reinforce Kuwait’s presence in regional and international space activities.

Through this collaboration, MBRSC aims to strengthen its role as a leading regional hub for space science and technology by supporting research, developing educational programs, and nurturing national talent. The Centre will closely work with KFAS to exchange best practices in satellite design, mission operations, space data analysis, and advanced applications.

The MoU signifies a shared vision to advance scientific research and innovation, bolster Arab cooperation in the space sector, and support the development of a knowledge-based economy that elevates the region’s standing within the global space community.
