Dubai: H.H. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, inaugurated the 20th edition of Art Dubai at Madinat Jumeirah. The event, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, precedes its public opening from 15 to 17 May.
According to Emirates News Agency, this landmark edition marks two decades since the inception of Art Dubai, highlighting its progression alongside Dubai's artistic journey. The fair underscores the emirate's status as a global hub for culture, arts, and the creative economy. This year's edition features a diverse programme, assembling galleries, artists, institutions, and cultural partners from around the globe to foster collaboration and creative exchange.
H.H. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed remarked on the event's significance: "For twenty years, Art Dubai has reflected the ambition and cultural openness that continue to shape Dubai's identity. What began as an art fair has evolved into a platform that brings together artists, institutions, collectors, and communities from around the world, fostering dialogue and expanding the role of culture within society."
She emphasized the importance of this special edition, noting its reflection of Art Dubai's evolution and the development of a resilient creative ecosystem over the past two decades. She highlighted the impact of creativity supported by long-term vision and collaboration, positioning culture as a driver of connection, opportunity, and progress.
During her visit, Sheikha Latifa toured several gallery presentations and programme highlights, including "Made Forward," a major exhibition from the Dubai Collection. This presentation explores themes of belonging, memory, and place-making through works from over 20 private collections in the UAE, featuring pieces from the collections of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Sheikha Latifa herself.
Sheikha Latifa also visited a modern Arab art exhibition by the Barjeel Art Foundation and engaged with various large-scale installations and site-responsive artworks. She met with artists and representatives from local and international galleries, discussing the event's remarkable evolution and continued growth in supporting the arts and creative landscape.
Accompanying Sheikha Latifa during the tour were Benedetta Ghione, Executive Director at Art Dubai Group; Alexie Glass-Kantor, Executive Director at Art Dubai Group; and Dunja Gottweis, Director at Art Dubai Fair.
Art Dubai 2026 emphasizes the importance of expanding access to culture and creativity, with free public access to all key areas and programmes. The fair features over 75 presentations by galleries and programme partners, showcasing a strong regional presence alongside international exhibitors from nearly 20 countries. Supported by leading cultural institutions, the programme includes exhibitions, installations, talks, screenings, and performances.
