Sharjah Sees Growth in Business Licenses with 38,169 Issued and Renewed in H1 2026

Sharjah: The total number of business licenses issued and renewed in Sharjah in the first half of 2026 reached 38,169, marking a growth rate of 2% compared to the same period last year, according to a report issued by the Sharjah Economic Development Department (SEDD) for achievements in the first half of the year.

According to Emirates News Agency, the SEDD highlighted key developments and events within economic sectors, noting efforts taken by the Department across all sectors and activities. The report showed that 4,597 licenses were issued, reflecting a 5% growth during this period, while renewed licenses totaled 33,572, with a growth rate of 2% compared to the same period last year.

The report serves as a comprehensive tool for stakeholders within the emirate's economic sectors, showcasing significant achievements. It underscores SEDD's commitment to achieving balanced and sustainable economic performance and enhancing business continuity.

In terms of license distribution by type, commercial licenses led with 2,514, followed by 1,407 professional licenses. Industrial licenses stood at 276, while Eitimad licenses and e-commerce licenses accounted for 233 and 167, respectively. For renewed licenses, commercial licenses reached 21,619, professional licenses 9,479, industrial licenses 1,854, Eitimad licenses 413, and e-commerce licenses 207, which saw a 52% growth compared to the first half of last year.

Geographically, the main center of the Department issued 2,156 licenses, followed by the Industrial Areas Branch with 1,492 licenses. The Central Region Branch issued 484 licenses, Khor Fakkan Branch 271, Kalba Branch 157, and Dibba Al Hisn Branch 37. For renewals, the Industrial Areas branch led with 14,989 licenses, the main center had 12,675, Central Region 3,279, Khor Fakkan 1,342, Kalba 1,051, and Dibba Al Hisn 236.

SEDD remains committed to fostering fair relationships between traders and consumers, evident by 90,106 commercial control transactions in the first half of 2026. The Department received 12,429 commercial protection complaints, with consumer protection complaints making up 11,134, commercial fraud 795, and service agent complaints 500.

SEDD Chairman Hamad Ali Abdulla Al Mahmoud commented on the economic indicators, noting continued investment momentum and sustainable growth in Sharjah. He emphasized the Emirate's resilience amidst geopolitical tensions and regional challenges, turning these into growth opportunities through economic diversification, infrastructure development, and ongoing projects.

Al Mahmoud highlighted Sharjah's goal to strengthen its position as a leading investment destination, supported by a diversified economy, growth-supporting policies, public-private partnerships, and continuous legislative and service development that stimulates the business environment.
