Abu dhabi: The Sharjah Government Communication Award (SGCA), organized by the Sharjah Government Media Bureau, has announced the opening of entries for its 13th edition in 2026. This edition emphasizes the significant role of communication in managing crises through the "Best Crisis Communication Strategy" category.
According to Emirates News Agency, the award aims to recognize government agencies, international organizations, and private institutions that have successfully developed and executed communication strategies that bolster public trust and ensure the transparent and accurate dissemination of information during crises. The focus is on assessing not only the speed of information dissemination but also the effectiveness of delivering clear messages that support decision-making, limit misinformation, and improve institutional preparedness.
Tariq Saeed Allay, Director-General of the Sharjah Government Media Bureau, highlighted the importance of well-structured communication in crisis management and decision-making. He noted that the impact of effective communication extends beyond merely sharing information; it plays a crucial role in raising public awareness, enhancing trust, reducing misinformation, and aiding institutions and societies in responding to challenges. Allay emphasized that successful crisis communication strategies are evaluated by their responsible information management, clear messaging, and ability to enhance institutional and societal readiness.
"In this category, we aim to showcase communication models that have provided innovative solutions and employed modern technologies, including tools powered by artificial intelligence. These advancements aim to boost communication efficiency, hasten response times, and convey information to the public accurately and effectively, all in keeping with the rapid shifts occurring in the communication landscape," he stated.
The category encompasses a wide range of crises, including health, environmental, economic, and social issues, requiring entities to communicate effectively and responsibly. Entries are evaluated based on the effectiveness of public communication management during crises, with emphasis on information accuracy, message clarity, transparency, public awareness, and addressing the needs of affected groups.
The SGCA is accepting entries for the "Best Crisis Communication Strategy" category through its website (https://gca.sgmb.ae/ar) until August 31, 2026. Eligible submissions include communication strategies and plans implemented during crises, awareness initiatives, information management, and the use of media and digital platforms to strengthen trust between institutions and the public.
