Abu dhabi: Israel must implement its commitments under the Gaza peace roadmap for the process to move forward, Nickolay Mladenov, high representative for Gaza at the Board of Peace, said on Monday, Anadolu Ajansi (AA) reported. Speaking at the third Hili Forum in Abu Dhabi, Mladenov highlighted that although progress had been made compared to a year ago, the situation is still far from achieving a political solution. According to Nam News Network, Mladenov emphasized the necessity of ensuring that what has been agreed upon is implemented to significantly change the lives of the people in Gaza. He acknowledged that the current situation is not ideal and discussions with Israel are ongoing regarding the implementation of their commitments, specifically concerning their withdrawal in exchange for the disarmament of Hamas and the commencement of reconstruction in the Palestinian enclave. Mladenov referred to seven months of negotiations with Hamas on disarmament, describing them as intense and difficult. He pra ised the mediation efforts of Türkiye, Egypt, and Qatar, along with support from the UAE and other regional countries. He expressed concern over the dire conditions in Gaza and the urgent need to improve circumstances before the upcoming winter. Mladenov outlined three potential paths: maintaining the current situation, expanding Israeli military operations and reoccupying Gaza, or implementing the Board of Peace roadmap. He advocated for the third option, which involves disarmament by agreement, an Israeli withdrawal, and reconstruction with international and regional support. Mladenov warned that failing to advance the roadmap could render the two-state solution practically impossible. The Board of Peace was established in January as part of US President Donald Trump's broader plan for Gaza, with Trump serving as its chairman. The initiative, backed by UN Security Council Resolution 2803, oversees Gaza's transition, including governance, security, and reconstruction. A Palestinian technocratic body, the N ational Committee for the Administration of Gaza, was also set up to manage civilian administration, restore public services, and rebuild institutions in the enclave. The Board of Peace issued a roadmap on July 31 for implementing the next phase of the Gaza plan, which includes Hamas disarmament, a phased Israeli withdrawal, transfer of administration to the Palestinian technocratic committee, deployment of an international stabilization force, and reconstruction. The third Hili Forum is being held in Abu Dhabi under the theme "Gulf at Crossroads: Conflict, Consequences and Course Correction." It is co-organized by the Emirates Centre for Strategic Studies and Research and the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy.
