Sheikh Dr Sultan Chairs Meeting on Higher Education in Sharjah

Sharjah:His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, chaired a meeting of the Sharjah Council for Higher Education and Scientific Research's (SCHESR) Permanent Executive Committee at the University City headquarters.

According to Emirates News Agency, the meeting discussed various topics concerning the higher education sector in Sharjah, aiming to enhance its scientific and academic ecosystem. The committee focused on supporting continued progress and achieving accomplishments among academic and administrative staff and students.

His Highness approved the unification of regulations and salary scales for administrative staff at several institutions, including the University of Khorfakkan, the University of Kalba, the University of Al Dhaid, Sharjah Maritime Academy, and Sharjah Education Academy. This decision aligns with Sharjah's educational strategies and objectives, promoting a unified operational system and attracting specialized staff. It is also intended to provide students with essential knowledge and skills while fostering an excellent working environment and partnerships with international higher education institutions.

The unified salary scale is expected to offer competitive incentives and systems for administrative employees, standardizing leave entitlements, such as bereavement leave, to match those of government employees in Sharjah.

Additionally, His Highness approved a policy for managing scholarships and discounts at higher education and scientific research institutions in Sharjah. This policy aims to enhance governance, clarify procedures, and simplify the process for scholarship applicants, ensuring smoother interactions between the Council and educational institutions.

The budget for the SCHESR for 2027 was also approved, ensuring the Council can continue its vital role in developing the higher education ecosystem and reinforcing Sharjah's position as a leading scientific hub.

The meeting attendees included Dr Mansour bin Nassar, Abdullah Ibrahim Al Zaabi, Dr Muhadditha Al Hashemi, Dr Aisha Bukhatir Al Shamsi, Professor Hamid Majoul Al Nuaimi, and Dr Mohammed Yousef Baniyas.
