Euro Drops to 17-Month Low Against US Dollar

Abu Dhabi:First paragraph of the news story.

According to Emirates News Agency, the euro reached a 17-month low against the US dollar on Monday. This decline was attributed to growing concerns over France's budget deficit management, which, along with last week's significant bond-market sell-off, heightened fears of a potential sovereign debt crisis in the eurozone.

The euro fell by 0.37% to $1.1211, having dropped as much as 0.8% to $1.116 earlier, marking its lowest point since May 2025. This recent performance marked the euro's fourth consecutive weekly decline against the dollar, with a 3.1% loss over the period, representing its longest weekly losing streak since May 2025.

Meanwhile, the dollar index, which tracks the US dollar against a basket of major currencies, increased by 0.26% to 102.16. It had previously reached 102.53, its highest level since April 10, 2025.
