Dubai Police Issue Nearly 49,000 Fines for Expired Vehicle Registrations

Dubai:Dubai Police have issued 48,950 traffic fines over the past 10 months for driving vehicles with expired registration. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to enhance road safety, enforce traffic regulations, and ensure vehicles comply with necessary legal and technical standards.

According to Emirates News Agency, Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, highlighted the risks associated with driving a vehicle with expired registration, which extend beyond fines and legal penalties. He emphasized the importance of regular technical inspections to identify mechanical faults and issues that could compromise vehicle performance and safety.

Brigadier bin Suwaidan warned that neglecting to renew vehicle registration might result in driving without verifying essential components such as tyres, brakes, lighting, and steering systems, increasing the risk of accidents due to unexpected mechanical failures. He also noted the potential for additional financial and legal consequences if a vehicle's insurance has expired and the driver is involved in an accident.

Driving with expired registration incurs a fine of AED 500, four traffic points, and seven days of vehicle impoundment under current traffic regulations. Brigadier bin Suwaidan urged motorists to renew their vehicle registration on time and ensure compliance with insurance, licensing, and technical inspection requirements to avoid penalties and safeguard themselves and other road users.

Dubai Police statistics revealed that 48,950 violations occurred in the first 10 months of the year, with January recording the highest number at 6,977, followed by February with 6,768, and March with 6,573. July ranked fourth with 6,404 violations, followed by June with 4,965, August with 4,859, September with 4,763, and October with 4,056. April recorded 2,601 violations, while May had the lowest number at 984.

Brigadier bin Suwaidan encouraged vehicle owners to promptly settle outstanding traffic fines to prevent accumulation. He highlighted the smart services provided by Dubai Police and other authorities, which allow motorists to check and pay traffic fines and complete vehicle registration renewals conveniently. These services help motorists avoid additional penalties and legal consequences from delayed renewals.

Brigadier bin Suwaidan concluded by urging motorists to regularly check their vehicle registration and insurance expiry dates, schedule timely technical inspections, and ensure their vehicles remain roadworthy. Complying with these requirements reflects a commitment to protecting lives and property, preventing traffic accidents, and upholding high road safety standards across Dubai.
