CAIRO: Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary-General of the Arab League, has raised alarms over the significant threat that Houthi attacks pose to maritime trade in the Red Sea, emphasizing the strategic importance of this vital global shipping corridor. According to Emirates News Agency, during a meeting with Hans Grundberg, the UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Aboul Gheit reiterated the Arab League's backing of Yemen's legitimate government and acknowledged Saudi Arabia's efforts in aiming to restore stability in the region. He underscored the importance of maintaining the current ceasefire, despite its precarious nature, and advocated for a comprehensive political settlement that includes all involved parties. Aboul Gheit also expressed deep concern about the worsening humanitarian conditions in Yemen. He urged for the immediate and unconditional release of United Nations aid workers and personnel, highlighting the urgent need for a resolution to the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
