AMMAN: The Minister of Awqaf, Islamic Affairs and Holy Sites, Dr. Mohammad Khalayleh, has issued a strong condemnation of what he describes as escalating violations by Israeli occupation authorities at Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa Mosque, or Al-Haram Al-Sharif, in recent days. Dr. Khalayleh warns of the consequences of these actions, which he claims involve both police and extremist groups undermining the sanctity of the mosque. According to Jordan News Agency, the minister highlighted that the Israeli escalation has enabled police and Jewish extremists to desecrate the holy site in unprecedented numbers. He further noted that these actions coincide with the protection provided to violations by hardliners, who are allegedly attempting to impose rapid and radical changes to militarize the mosque both internally and externally. Dr. Khalayleh expressed concerns that such efforts are aimed at achieving both overt and covert objectives to Judaize the mosque, thereby altering its historic and legal status. He reiterated t he Muslim community's commitment to their religious, historical, and legal rights to access Al-Aqsa Mosque, underscoring its status as a purely Islamic site under the custodianship of His Majesty King Abdullah II. The minister also called upon Arab and Islamic nations to take responsibility and apply pressure on Israeli authorities to halt their actions at Al-Aqsa Mosque. He warned that continued efforts to Judaize the holy sites and surrounding areas could lead to further escalation of tensions.
