Baniyas Leads on Opening Day of 6th Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship in Fujairah


Fujairah: The sixth round of the second edition of the Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship (Gi) began at the Zayed Sports Complex in Fujairah, drawing a large crowd and featuring elite athletes from local clubs and academies. The opening day focused on the youth, adults, and masters divisions, marked by competitive matches as the championship enters its crucial final stages.

According to Emirates News Agency, Baniyas Jiu-Jitsu Club ended the first day at the top of the standings, with M.O.D UAE in second place and Sharjah Self-Defence Sports Club in third. The results demonstrate the competitiveness among clubs striving to secure the overall lead in the championship’s remaining rounds.

Yousef Abdullah Al Batran, Board Member of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, highlighted the championship’s momentum, with over 1,600 athletes from across the country participating. He noted the significant crowd turnout, especially families, which adds a social dimension to the championship, emphasizing jiu-jitsu
as a lifestyle that strengthens community bonds.

Ali Qaddour Al Yamahi, Branch Manager at Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank in Fujairah, expressed satisfaction with the championship’s organization and strong participation. He noted the impressive skills displayed by athletes to an enthusiastic audience.

Rashed Al Shehhi, Al Wahda Club athlete and gold medallist in the men’s 56 kg category, shared his pride in winning gold in a challenging competition. He mentioned his previous silver win and how intensive training led him to claim first place this time.

Haneen Al Khoori, Baniyas Jiu-Jitsu Club athlete and gold medallist in the women’s youth 57 kg category, expressed her pride in winning and the motivation it provides to improve her performance for future competitions.
