Berri Confirms Continuation of Parliamentary Committees Amid Quorum Shortage

BEIRUT: Speaker of the House Nabih Berri presided over a meeting of the Parliamentary Bureau, affirming that current parliamentary committees will continue to operate despite the failure to achieve a quorum in the October 22, 2024, session intended to elect new committees. According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the decision was made after consultations with bureau members and was supported by parliamentary bylaws, legal precedent, and a legal opinion from Dr. Edmond Rabat. The decision underscores the principle of institutional continuity, allowing existing committees to remain active until new elections can be held. The statement highlighted that similar measures were implemented in previous sessions on March 16, 1976, March 21, 1989, and March 19, 2019. All current committee members will be notified of the resolution to maintain their roles.
