Abu dhabi: Five people died and three others were hospitalised after toxic gas erupted inside a factory restroom in the city of Hebi, central China’s Henan Province, local authorities said on Tuesday.
According to Emirates News Agency, the incident occurred at Hexin Chemical Industry Co. in Shancheng District. A sulphuric acid storage tank is believed to have leaked, allowing acid to flow into the plant’s storm-water system and subsequently into a septic tank. This chain of events led to the production of hydrogen sulphide gas.
One of the injured individuals remains in serious but stable condition, while two others sustained minor injuries, as reported by the district’s emergency management bureau. Operations at the site have been halted, and all personnel have been evacuated. A full investigation is underway to determine the cause and extent of the incident.
