Cooperation between Tunisia and the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) was the focus of a meeting between the Minister of National Defence, Imed Memiche, and Assistant Secretary-General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation for Political Affairs and Security Policy, Javier Calomina, at the ministry’s headquarters on Tuesday. Memiche praised the development of the existing cooperation between Tunisia and NATO in several areas, such as training and exchange of experience. He expressed his readiness to develop cooperation in other areas of mutual interest, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Defence. Colomina, for his part, praised the partnership programme between Tunisia and NATO, stressing the commitment to continue working to enhance this joint cooperation to reach advanced stages. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, Nabil Ammar, met on Monday with Javier Colomina, who is on a working visit to Tunisia from September 11 to 13. They discussed the reality and prospects of partnership and cooperation relations between Tunisia and the Organisation at the bilateral and regional levels, as well as ways to develop them further. In May 2015, Tunisia obtained the status of “major non-NATO ally”. The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) was founded on April 4, 1949. It is an international alliance of 31 countries from Europe, North America and Asia.
