DEWA Launches Campaign for World Energy Day 2024

DUBAI: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has initiated its annual campaign to commemorate World Energy Day, observed on October 22 each year, as part of its continuous efforts to involve customers and the community in pursuing sustainable development. According to Emirates News Agency, the initiative, sanctioned by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, was adopted by 54 countries, along with the United Nations, the Arab League, and the African Union, during the World Energy Forum in 2012 in Dubai. The 2024 campaign, themed 'This World Energy Day, Be the Change', focuses on energy efficiency, reducing carbon footprints, the utilization of renewable and clean energy, and supporting the green economy. To promote the campaign, DEWA has disseminated awareness messages to customers via email and SMS, utilized social media platforms to highlight the day, and conducted interactive competitions offering valuable prizes. In its bid to raise public consciousness, DEWA hosted an edutainment event at the Emirates Down Syndrome Association, concentrating on the importance of sustainable energy and conserving natural resources. Furthermore, DEWA organized an educational visit for 60 pupils from government schools to the Sustainability and Innovation Centre at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. During the visit, pupils explored the latest developments in clean and renewable energy and learned about the role of modern technologies in fostering a sustainable future for Dubai and the UAE.
