Erbil: The Digital School, an initiative under the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives Foundation, has announced a partnership with the Ministry of Education of the Kurdistan Regional Government to launch an ambitious initiative aimed at training 10,000 digital teachers in the region.
According to Emirates News Agency, the programme will equip both male and female teachers with modern digital teaching skills through a comprehensive training programme developed in collaboration with Arizona State University, USA. This initiative marks a new phase of strategic cooperation between the Digital School and Kurdistan’s Ministry of Education, building on the success of a prior phase that trained and certified 2,400 digital teachers with support from Dubai Cares.
Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, and Chairman of the Digital School, emphasized the importance of building teachers’ digital capacities. He noted that these initiatives are designed to support communities by offering future-oriented learning models that empower students to access and benefit from technological learning resources and solutions.
Alan Hama Salih, Minister of Education of the Kurdistan Regional Government, commended the Digital School’s efforts in enhancing teachers’ digital education capacities. He highlighted the significance of the Digital School’s flexible operational model, which effectively overcomes geographical, temporal, and language barriers, thus providing an interactive and personalized learning environment for skill development.
The initiative aims to enhance digital education in Kurdistan and is organized under the Global Academy for Digital Teachers, a part of the Digital School. This academy focuses on developing digital competencies and promoting innovative teaching methods to empower teachers. It offers training programmes in Kurdish, Arabic, and English, ensuring inclusivity and providing internationally accredited certificates from Arizona State University.
The Global Academy for Digital Teachers, supported by the UAE Government’s Experience Exchange Office, holds international accreditation and offers training in seven languages. It is committed to empowering teachers to use technology effectively, foster interactive learning, and support innovation in classrooms, contributing to Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education for all.
Launched in November 2020 by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Digital School is the first accredited digital school of its kind. It aims to empower students with digital learning options, targeting underprivileged communities and displaced people globally. Since its inception, the school has benefited over 750,000 students and trained more than 23,000 digital teachers.
