Dubai Municipality Advances Digital Transformation at GITEX Global 2024

Dubai: Dubai Municipality has launched the second phase of its digital transformation plan at GITEX Global 2024, showcasing new projects aimed at improving city services. The announcement, made at the Dubai World Trade Centre, highlights significant advancements in municipal services, including import/export regulations, laboratory testing, animal welfare, and the food industry, aligning with the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy. According to Emirates News Agency, as part of this ongoing transformation, Dubai Municipality has upgraded 38 key services. The event also marked the introduction of several innovative projects designed to streamline processes and enhance efficiency across various sectors. These include Montaji+, a new initiative set to simplify the trading journey for food and consumer products by enabling quicker product registration and compliance with global standards through a centralized catalogue and AI integration. Another critical development is the Unified Permit System, which reduces appro val times by 60% by simplifying approval procedures and permit issuance through a digital data-driven process. Dubai Central Laboratories Testing has also been revamped to facilitate faster and more accurate testing of various samples, significantly improving reliability and turnaround times. The Virtual Appointment System, currently in its pilot phase on the Dubai Municipality online platform, aims to boost customer satisfaction and service efficiency. Additionally, the NAQIL system, employing radio frequency identification technology, automates vehicle management at sewage treatment plants, enhancing operational efficiency and environmental compliance. Dubai Municipality's digital efforts also include a Cloud Internet-of-Things (IoT) Platform, approved by the Dubai Electronic Security Centre. This platform integrates IoT devices across the city, improving the management of essential services like the sewage system, water network, and city's vehicle fleet, ensuring efficient city management and sustainabil ity. These digital initiatives are projected to save over 62,000 working hours per month, significantly reducing costs and carbon emissions. The transformation is driven by a customer-centric approach, involving over 150 stakeholders in 180 workshops, ensuring that the services are user-friendly and tailored to the needs of residents and businesses.
