Abu dhabi: Expo City Dubai’s Al Wasl Plaza became a global focal point as city leaders from across the globe gathered for the opening ceremony of the Asia Pacific Cities Summit and Mayors’ Forum. This event was held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai.
According to Emirates News Agency, the summit underscores Dubai’s position as a central hub for sustainable and inclusive urban development. The summit was inaugurated by Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation and CEO of Expo City Dubai Authority, along with Abdulla Mohammed Al Basti, Secretary General of The Executive Council of Dubai. The Lord Mayor of Brisbane, Councillor Adrian Schrinner, also spoke, highlighting the importance of hosting this forum in the region for the first time in its 29-year history.
Abdulla Mohammed Al Basti expressed that Dubai, as a
platform for global connection and innovation, is proud to host this significant summit. He emphasized that Expo City serves as a blueprint for sustainable urban development, offering cities a chance to share best practices, establish strategic partnerships, and improve urban liveability, equity, and economies.
The summit’s speakers focused on collaboration, shared learning, and transforming ideas into actionable strategies. Mayors and city leaders united with the common goal of enhancing life for their citizens through practical partnerships and knowledge exchange.
The opening ceremony featured a captivating light projection on Al Wasl dome and a performance by the Firdaus Orchestra, setting the tone for three days dedicated to inspiration, innovation, and collaboration among cities.
Organized by the Brisbane City Council and delivered by Expo City Dubai, the Asia Pacific Cities Summit and Mayors’ Forum continues at the Dubai Exhibition Centre from 27-29 October. The event has attracted over 150 mayors an
d leaders from more than 300 cities worldwide.
