Finance Minister Shukri Bishara today discussed with Norwegian Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt preparations for the upcoming Ad Hoc Liaison Committee (AHLC) meeting of donor countries scheduled to be held next week in New York in conjunction with the meetings of the United Nations General Assembly.

During the meeting held in Ramallah, Bishara discussed ways to improve the financial and economic conditions of the Palestinian Authority in light of the continued Israeli deductions from the clearing funds and the decline in external aid, stressing the importance of garnering financial support to enable the Palestinian Authority to fulfill its obligations and responsibilities and continue its work in a sustainable manner.

He stressed the need for the AHLC meeting to come up with serious results and mechanisms that would pressure Israel to release Palestinian funds it has been holding since 2019, which currently amount to about $800 million.

Bishara thanked Norway for its support for Palestine, its commitment to international law and justice, and the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state.
