The existing partnership and cooperation between Tunisia and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) was the focus of a meeting between Nabil Ammar, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, and Abdallah Al Dardari, Assistant Secretary-General and Director of the UNDP Regional Bureau for Arab States, who is on a working visit to Tunisia. During the meeting, Minister Ammar praised the programme’s contribution and support to national efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, especially in this complex international and regional context. He stressed that Tunisia relies on itself and its partners to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, according to a Ministry press release. The FM underlined the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation to implement partnership programmes in line with the strategic objectives of the National Plan for Social and Economic Reform, particularly in the areas of governance and climate change. He also stressed the need to build resilience to the adverse effects of climate change, especially in light of the successive and interdependent regional and global crises and their negative impact on the progress of the Sustainable Development Goals agenda. For his part, the UN official reaffirmed his determination to work closely with Tunisia to implement the projects identified by UNDP, in line with the country’s expectations, the priorities of the Tunisian government and the 2023-2025 development plan. He said Tunisia’s prosperity and progress are in the interest of the entire region and the world and reaffirmed the programme’s commitment to promoting partnership and cooperation with Tunisia, which he described as a key player in the region. He reiterated the willingness to provide expertise and technical assistance to Tunisia and to work to mobilise the necessary resources to finance development programmes for Tunisia’s prosperity, according to the same source.
