GCAA Convenes Inaugural National Aviation Pathology and Autopsy Protocol Committee Meeting


Abu dhabi: The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), represented by the Air Accident Investigation Sector, recently hosted its first meeting of the National Advisory Committee for the Aviation Pathology and Autopsy Protocol at its headquarters in Abu Dhabi. The meeting was chaired by Captain Aysha Mohammed Al Hamili, Assistant Director General of the Air Accident Investigation Sector, and included participants from various national entities such as the Ministry of Interior, General Police Directorates of Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Ras Al Khaimah, Al Reem Hospital, the Health Authority, and the GCAA.



According to Emirates News Agency, the committee reviewed its formation decree and deliberated on the next steps for implementing the protocol. Discussions also covered the review schedule of the protocol, necessary training for forensic doctors, and the framework for their accreditation as specialists in aviation pathology and autopsy in the context of civil aviation accidents. This initiative is noted as a unique global effort.



Captain Aysha Al Hamli highlighted that the protocol signifies a national initiative aimed at advancing air accident investigation standards. It seeks to integrate forensic and aviation medicine to bolster civil aviation safety on both national and international fronts.



Furthermore, the committee outlined proposed scientific activities for 2026 and discussed strategies for promoting the protocol nationally and internationally. This meeting underscores the GCAA’s commitment to enhancing coordination among national entities in the fields of forensic and aviation medicine, ensuring the air accident investigation system aligns with international best practices in aviation safety.
