BIKFAYA: Former President Amine Gemayel, alongside former leaders Michel Sleiman and Fouad Siniora, has called for an immediate ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel and the election of a new president to restore national unity and address the ongoing crisis. Gemayel praised caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati for his opposition to Iranian influence and his dedication to preserving Lebanon's unity, stressing the urgency of ending the violence and implementing UNSC Resolution 1701. According to National News Agency - Lebanon, Gemayel emphasized the necessity of supporting governmental and parliamentary efforts with Arab and international entities to mitigate the current crisis. He advocated for a national rescue government tasked with creating a reconstruction plan and addressing damages caused by Israeli actions, in collaboration with Arab countries. Gemayel highlighted the importance of rebuilding Lebanese authority nationwide in line with the Taif Agreement and called for a comprehensive plan for economic and financial reform. Former Prime Minister Fouad Siniora echoed these sentiments, highlighting the failure to implement UNSC Resolution 1701 since the July 2006 war. He noted the resolution's stipulations, including the Lebanese State's obligation to ensure that no weapons enter Lebanon except those sanctioned by the State or UNIFIL forces, and the prohibition of weapons south of the Litani River. Siniora stressed that while he and his colleagues are no longer part of the executive or legislative authorities, their commitment to Lebanon's public affairs and rescue necessitates this initiative to fully implement the outlined points.
