IROS 2024 Concludes with Record Attendance and Innovative Showcases in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi: The 36th edition of the IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS 2024) successfully concluded in Abu Dhabi today, with a record number of nearly 10,000 visitors, delegates, and participants. The event, hosted from October 14th at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center (ADNEC), highlighted the region's growing prominence as a hub for robotics and artificial intelligence. According to Emirates News Agency, the event not only set a new attendance record but also significantly enhanced Abu Dhabi's profile as a leading destination for advanced technology innovation. Dr. Jorge Manual Dias, General Chair of IROS 2024, commented on the event's success, noting the broad spectrum of innovations presented, the engaging technology demonstrations at the expo, and the substantial interest in talent acquisition which drew experts from around the globe. The conference featured impactful plenary talks, keynote sessions, and a variety of presentations that captivated attendees. D r. Magnus Egerstedt delivered a notable plenary session on October 18th, focusing on the application of ecological concepts to multi-robot systems, which underscored the theme of collaboration within the field. Keynote discussions included insights from Pedro U. Lima about robot competitions in Europe and remarks by Dr. Timothy Chung on DARPA Challenges, emphasizing the competitive and cooperative aspects of robotics in contemporary research and applications. In addition to the plenaries and keynotes, IROS 2024 hosted several forums on the last day, addressing topics from marine robotics in sustainable development to the future of AI-enhanced robotics in human interaction, and industrial opportunities in medical robotics. Over 500 research papers were presented, with topics ranging widely across theoretical and applied robotics.
