BEIRUT: Israeli airstrikes targeted several towns in southern Lebanon on Friday, leading to numerous casualties and substantial property damage, as tensions between the two regions escalated. The strikes hit areas including Aita al-Shaab, al-Zrariyeh, and Jouaiya, among others, sparking widespread concern among local residents. According to National News Agency - Lebanon, the airstrikes began around midday, with Aita al-Shaab experiencing significant impacts. A separate raid on al-Zrariyeh near Wadi Khalil resulted in reported fatalities, adding to the growing toll of the conflict. The towns of al-Bazourieh, Shaytiyeh, and Jouaiya faced further airstrikes, causing extensive property damage and leaving communities in distress. In Marjeyoun, the Ebil Al-Saqi area was struck by two missiles, one of which hit a three-story building while the other targeted a house. The strikes' proximity to residential areas heightened alarm among local populations, already on edge due to the ongoing conflict. Additional airstr ikes were reported in al-Malikieh within the Tyre district, while an unidentified object exploded off the coast of Naqoura, creating smoke plumes over the sea near Tyre. The escalation in military activity has prompted calls for restraint from international observers, as well as concerns over the potential for further casualties and damage. The situation remains tense, with local authorities urging residents to remain vigilant.
