Israeli authorities Wednesday renewed the administrative detention sentence against cancer-stricken Palestinian prisoner Abdul Baset Mutan for a period of six months though his current sentence was supposed to end on July 23rd, according to the Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS). Mutan, 48, from the town of Burqa, east of Ramallah, has colon cancer and his health is constantly deteriorating. The father of four was re-detained in July 2022 three months after his release from the previous administrative detention. Since his detention, two administrative detention orders were issued against him for a period of six months, while this is the third order against him, noting that Mutan recently received threats to have his administrative detention kept on. The PPS accused Israel of slow murder of Palestinian prisoners, mainly the ill, through its medical negligence policy, urging the immediate release of Mutan, who is married with four children and who spent a total of nine years behind Israeli bars for his resistance of the occupation, most of it in administrative detention, to allow him to pursue proper and badly needed treatment at hospitals.
