Gaza city: The Ministerial Committee representing a coalition of Arab and Islamic nations, including the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Republic of Indonesia, and several others, has issued a strong condemnation of Israel's recent announcement to impose full military control over the Gaza Strip. The coalition, which also comprises the League of Arab States and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, considers this move as a serious violation of international law and a dangerous escalation.
According to Emirates News Agency, the statement expressed categorical rejection of Israel's actions, describing them as an attempt to solidify illegal occupation and a direct contravention of international legitimacy. The committee highlighted that such actions perpetuate grave violations, including killing, forced displacement, and settler terrorism, which could constitute crimes against humanity. These actions are seen as obliterating opportunities for peace and undermining efforts for a peaceful resolution, exacerbating the severe humanitarian crisis faced by Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, West Bank, and East Jerusalem.
The committee calls for an immediate cessation of Israeli aggression and demands the unimpeded entry of humanitarian assistance into the Gaza Strip. They emphasized the need for Israel to allow aid, including food, medicine, and fuel, and ensure the freedom of operation for relief agencies in line with international humanitarian law.
Furthermore, the statement supports ongoing efforts by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States to achieve a ceasefire and facilitate a prisoner exchange, viewing this as crucial for de-escalation. It also advocates for the urgent commencement of the Arab-Islamic reconstruction plan for Gaza and encourages participation in the upcoming reconstruction conference in Cairo.
The coalition strongly condemns attempts to displace Palestinians and stresses preserving the legal and historical status of holy sites in Jerusalem. They reaffirm that a just peace can only be achieved through a two-State solution, establishing an independent Palestinian State with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international law.
Finally, the statement holds Israel accountable for the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza and urges the international community, especially the Security Council's permanent members, to take action against Israel's aggressive policies. It calls for the implementation of measures outlined at the High-Level International Conference on the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine, aiming for a comprehensive peaceful resolution and the realization of the two-State solution.
