Jordan Completes Integration of BTEC Qualifications in Education System

AMMAN: Jordan's Ministry of Education, in collaboration with Pearson, has finalized the implementation of BTEC qualifications across the nation's educational framework. This initiative, which began in September 2023, introduces six key majors including Engineering, Business, Information Technology, Hospitality, Agriculture, and Hair and Beauty. The program is set to expand in the 2024-2025 academic year with four additional majors: Creative Media, Tourism and Travel, Art and Design, and Building and Construction, reaching 310 schools nationwide with 653 classrooms and accommodating 33,627 students at advanced levels. According to Jordan News Agency, the Ministry has appointed 1,318 teachers to support the new curriculum, supplementing the existing educational staff. A comprehensive training program has engaged approximately 3,200 teachers, supervisors, and vocational education leaders at various administrative levels from 2023 to 2024. Discussions are ongoing between the Ministry and Pearson to further devel op programs in health and sports specialties. The integration of vocational education is a strategic response to the challenges posed by the fourth technological revolution, which has significantly altered labor market demands. The Ministry emphasizes the necessity of a vocational education system that aligns with these changes to bridge the skills gap and mitigate risks such as unemployment and economic stagnation. Pearson's involvement included training 1,385 staff from 266 state schools through a combination of online and in-person sessions conducted across major cities like Amman, Irbid, and Petra. The training, led by 85 subject matter experts, covered critical teaching and assessment methodologies for BTEC qualifications. Additionally, "Train the Trainer" sessions were held for over 350 Ministry staff to ensure ongoing support for teachers new to the program.
