The visit of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to Amman on Tuesday came as part of continuous Jordanian-Palestinian coordination and meetings between His Majesty King Abdullah II and Abbas.
Jordan addresses the international community and the world with the need to protect the Palestinian people and ensure realising their legitimate rights by achieving their independent state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Abdullah Kanaan, Secretary General of the Royal Commission for Jerusalem Affairs, told the Jordan News Agency that Jordanian politics is an “important pillar” in the internationally influential diplomatic movement in the Palestinian cause favour.
Kanaan said Jordan supports peace in the region to prevent “dangerous” escalation, adding that the policy of “apartheid” practised by the Israeli government had the “greatest” role in exacerbating and complicating the situation.
He added that the specificity of the Amman meeting between the King and Abbas comes in terms of its timing in difficult regional circumstances regarding developments in occupied Palestine and the non-stop occupation practices.
