Jordan’s Foreign Minister Labels Bombing Near Gaza Hospital as “War Crime”

Amman, Jordan - Jordan's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, has characterized the recent bombing near the Jordanian field hospital in Gaza as a continuation of Israel's war crimes in the region. This statement comes amid heightened tensions and ongoing violence in Gaza.

According to Jordan News Agency, In an interview with Al-Mamlaka local TV, Safadi expressed Jordan's categorical denunciation of the bombing, classifying it as a war crime. He highlighted that this incident is part of a larger pattern of hospital bombings occurring in Gaza recently. The Jordanian government is awaiting the results of the armed forces' investigation into the attack to determine the necessary legal, diplomatic, and political measures to address this crime.

Safadi elaborated that a thorough investigation is underway to ascertain all details surrounding the bombing, including the weapon used and the circumstances leading to injuries to Jordanian personnel. He emphasized that under international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions, Israel, as the occupying power, has an obligation not only to protect the hospital but also to ensure its operations are not obstructed.

The Foreign Minister dismissed any claims by Israel that a tunnel runs beneath the military field hospital, insisting that Jordan will take a firm and clear stance against this crime. He reiterated that Israel is violating international law and committing war crimes, including denying Palestinian infants access to their incubators.

Safadi also stressed Jordan's diplomatic efforts under the leadership of King Abdullah II to mobilize international opinion and action against the ongoing aggression in Gaza. He reaffirmed that the Kingdom will not accept any justification for the bombing of the Jordanian field hospital and emphasized Israel's responsibility to protect hospitals and their staff.

He further noted that this is not the first time Jordanian forces have been involved in Palestine, with Jordan previously providing martyrs for the cause. The recent incident in Gaza, where Jordanian hospital staff sustained injuries while assisting injured Palestinians, underlines the Kingdom's ongoing commitment to supporting the people of Gaza.
