Seoul: Omran Sharaf, Assistant Foreign Minister for Advanced Science and Technology, spearheaded a UAE delegation to the United States with a mission to bolster collaboration in critical, emerging, and advanced technologies, and to explore new economic opportunities.
According to Emirates News Agency, Sharaf took part in two panel discussions at the AI Expo in Washington DC, where he engaged with Michael Kratsios, Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), Ethan Klein, US Chief Technology Officer, and Jacob Helberg, Undersecretary of State for Economic Affairs. The AI Expo served as a platform for industry leaders to deliberate on the latest advancements and policies in artificial intelligence.
During the expo, Omran Sharaf emphasized the UAE's strides in securing access to advanced semiconductors, addressing participants alongside Yousef Al Otaiba, UAE Ambassador to the United States. Sharaf also conducted meetings with leaders from various industries and think tanks to discuss pivotal developments within advanced technology sectors.
In these discussions, Sharaf underscored the longstanding partnership between the UAE and the US, which is anchored in a forward-looking vision and a shared commitment to technology, innovation, and investment. A significant outcome of this collaboration is the launch of a 5GW UAE-US artificial intelligence technology cluster, touted as the largest facility of its kind outside of the US, aimed at propelling research and sustainable development through shared technological goals.
The cooperative efforts will be further supported by a substantial US$1.4 trillion investment in the US by UAE investment institutions over the next decade. This move is set to accelerate growth, foster innovation, and drive scientific advancements in both nations.
Omran Sharaf reiterated the UAE's commitment to being an open, responsible, and attractive hub for investment and economic activities, as well as a reliable international partner. The UAE will continue collaborating with the US to cultivate an economic environment that is dynamic, inclusive, and geared towards long-term growth.
