Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, on Saturday evening received a phone call from US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.
President Abbas called for stopping the ongoing Israeli escalation against the Palestinian people, the reason of which is the practices of the colonialists and the Israeli occupation forces, and the aggression against Islamic and Christian holy sites, especially the Al-Aqsa Mosque, “which is what we had warned against, in addition to the blockage of the political horizon and depriving our people from exercising their legitimate right to self-determination and achieve their independence and sovereignty in their state with East Jerusalem as its capital,” according to a statement issued by the Palestinian Presidency.
“Failure to apply the resolutions of international legitimacy and international law to Israel, and the continued injustice and oppression to which our people are exposed, are what are pushing things towards an explosion whose consequences no one will be able to bear,” Pre
sident Abbas stressed. He called for providing international protection for “our defenseless people who are being exposed to bloody Israeli aggression”.
For his part, the US Secretary of State stressed that his country is working with all parties to stop the escalation, underscoring the importance of maintaining communication.
