President Mahmoud Abbas received a phone call today from the President of the Federal Republic of Russia, Vladimir Putin, in which they discussed the latest developments in the two countries and ways to enhance bilateral relations. During the phone call, the Russian leader congratulated President Abbas and the people of Palestine on Eid Al-Adha. President Putin also affirmed Russia’s permanent position in support of the Palestinian people in achieving their aspirations for freedom, independence and the establishment of their independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital. Meantime, President Abbas briefed his Russian counterpart on the latest developments relating to the Palestinian cause, and expressed his wishes of progress and prosperity for Russia.
